About the Piece
I began with a palette of rose pinks and soft beiges, colors that don't shout for attention but rather invite you to lean in closer. Working with heavily diluted acrylic and ink, I allowed the pigments to bloom across the canvas like watercolour, embracing the fukinsei principle of asymmetry that's central to Zen aesthetics. Sometimes the gentlest approach creates the most powerful effect.
Unlike my more structured pieces, I surrendered more control with this one. I tilted the canvas, coaxing the colours to mingle and separate in ways that mimic the soft unfurling of petals. The result is something that feels alive—breathing, opening, revealing itself gradually, just as flowers do.
What fascinates me about florals isn't their obvious beauty but their combination of fragility and resilience. A rose petal bruises at the slightest touch yet survives the wildest storms. This paradox guided my application of white space—the Ma concept—creating peaceful moments that allow the more delicate elements to assert their quiet strength.
My hope is that "Tenderly" creates a moment of softness in your day. That in a world that often celebrates the bold and loud, this piece reminds you of the power in gentleness, in approaching life with an open heart, in the courage it takes to remain tender in a hardened world.
The artwork is created on premium stretched canvas using archival-quality acrylic and ink. Multiple layers of transparent mediums create depth while preserving the luminous quality of the pigments. A subtle satin varnish protects the surface while maintaining the delicate visual texture. The piece comes professionally mounted with hanging hardware installed and includes a signed certificate of authenticity.
